Feeling a bit nostalgic… I’m in the process of updating my website, it’s fun, it’s exhausting, and at times exasperating, but I love revisiting portraits from the past couple of seasons. (I hate letting go of some too that have been on my site for the last couple of years, but I have to force myself to make room for the new sometimes…) So here I am… remembering families and seniors that I have shared time with, created portraits for, and laughed and enjoyed a little window in our lives together…
I love this image, the top laughing one, it was at the end of the session, the kids were tired, it had been a long day, and then they had to get all dressed up and come to the beach not to swim or dig or explore, but to be photographed. They were awesome, but they were ready to go home. As we were being silly and I was laughing and telling everyone to get closer even though they were as close as they thought they could get and nearly falling over which of course made them all laugh too, the grandfather, the patriarch, the co-creator of this wonderful family, looked at me with such pure joy, and such love for his beautiful family, with such happiness at being with them, and I realized for the millionth time why I spend my summer days capturing moments like that.
I love traveling, and find all sorts of adventures, all over the world, but it still surprises me when a family contacts me from England, or Kenya, or any of the many places around the world in between that my clients have come from. This beautiful family came down from Canada to have their family vacation together on gorgeous Cape Cod. And they chose me to take their family portraits on a Cape Cod beach, Dowses in Osterville in this case, and I am oh so grateful they did. Because I was lucky enough to share this magical moment with them.
