So here it is. Labor Day weekend. The unofficial end of summer on Cape Cod. I’m not sure how it got here so quickly, I haven’t even started on my summer bucket list yet. Darn.
It’s funny how you can feel the change. Even the weather is saying fall is coming. For my senior portrait session on Friday night at Dowses Beach, the air had a distinct chill, I had goosebumps while I was waiting for my senior to arrive! Lucky I’m a soccer mom, and my car always has layers in it all year, because you just never know what you’re going to get when watching a soccer game! The evening, and session, turned out to be beautiful. Just like the senior girl I photographed.
Again for my family portrait last night in West Hyannisport, the air had a distinct clearness, total lack of humidity, the sun was bright and shining, but the air spoke of the change to come… I’m ready, and yet, oh so not ready.
After I photographed my fabulous family, they were great, and fun was had by all… we went to pick up my daughter at party she was at on Sandy Neck. So I guess Sandy Neck is the place to be on Labor Day weekend, the entire beach was filled with bonfires, fireworks, lanterns floating out to sea, it was really pretty magical. We arrived a bit early so that we could sit and watch (or in my case photograph) the stars. Also magical. Shooting stars to wish on. The Milky Way clear and magnificent. Laughter filling the air. All with a backdrop of waves against the shore.
I texted my daughter to let her know we were there. She texted back, ‘ok. We’re the ones with the fire.’ Man I love that kid.
Next year I won’t be available for sessions on Labor Day weekend. I’ll be the one by the fire.
